I wanted to use this time in waiting to reflect and write about my past work, but all I feel inside is move forward. Rather than looking at how my past experience has shaped me, maybe it was time to start with a blank page. Who would I be if I didn’t know the work of Florence Nightingale and all the nurses, researchers, and philosophers that came before me?
That’s when I remembered a TEDxTeen talk by a Jacob Barnett. Barnett’s 2012 talk, Forget what you Know, inspired me. Where would I go and what would I do in my quest to be the the most caring nurse I could be?
In less than 24 hours I would disembark and face a whole new adventure in nursing. Would I be the leader of my own group or would I find a group to join?
Reflecting on the Evidence
- Is there one nursing theorist or philosopher you align with? If so, explain why. And if not, chose one nursing theorist or philosopher and explain why you wouldn’t follow him or her.
