Operational Definitions

PreBrief or DeBrief: The Art Story

Terms of utmost importance (operational definitions) I must share:

Art Story. Mcluhan (1964) noted “. . . new media are used to do the work of old media until we figure out what the new media offer the world of communication that is truly new” (as cited in Ohler, 2008, p. 39). Ohler goes on to clarify the art story as “. . . truly new creations . We can guess what these might look like, but in many cases we don’t know what they are until they arrive” (p. 39).

Debrief. “A process in which people who have had an experience are led through a purposive discussion of that experience” (Lederman, 1992, p. 146).

Prebrief. “The purpose of the [prebrief] is to set the stage for a scenario and assist partipants in achieving scenario objectives” (INACSL Standards Committee. Malloy et al., p. 61).

With little left of time to spare . . . I have only pictures and data to share with you:

. . . And the door closed. I was so excited! Until the man next to me turned to speak to the person next to him. The person did not respond. The man turned to me and shrugged his shoulders. I leaned around him to see who it was. It was Héloïse! She looked at me with the side eye as to say, “You’re sending yourself cheat sheets. That’s a no-no. And you’re not giving credit where credit is due.

I sat back and said “It’s a mess, it will probably take me half a century to figure it out.”

So, I sit back and hum a little tune or two . . .

Reflecting on the Evidence

  1. Have you ever sensed something missing in your life? If yes, explain how you found what was missing. If no, explain a life full-filled.
  2. Have you ever not referenced someone else’s ideas and not given credit? Explain your answer.

Dedication

Helöise and all my friends that keep me on the narrow path.

Addendum

“. . . giving credit where credit is due.” I thought this was a Héloïse original. I’m just as surprised as you to find it comes from Sawyer Brown’s song, Thank God for you. I bet Mr. Brown would be half interested to learn his song was one of three in this post. Yes. There are three songs. Ya’ll need to read the reference list ; )
